ABOUT US
OUR MISSION
The Here and Now Project's mission is to connect and empower the spinal cord injury and mobility disability community in the Pacific Northwest. Through direct hospital outreach, monthly social groups, community activities and larger annual gatherings, we have built a fellowship who encourage and inspire each other to “Do Life” in the here and now.
Whether you’ve been in a chair since birth, or your loved one was hurt just six weeks ago, you are not alone. Whatever your situation, there are those among us who have been there too. You may not realize it, but your story has the power to change someone’s life.

INTERNAL AND EXTERNAL OVERSIGHT
The Directors who serve and oversee the Here & Now Project help to develop and advance the interests of our donors in ways that go beyond raising money.
Good governance is more than supporting the organization – it also means representing the community’s interests in what we do. Our Board of Directors have three fundamental legal obligations, or fiduciary duties, which apply to everything we do.
DUTY OF LOYALTY
Keeping the interests of the Here & Now Project in mind always when making decisions on behalf of the organization.
DUTY OF CARE
The amount of care an ordinarily prudent person would exercise in a like position and under similar circumstances. This describes the criteria our Directors must give to making decisions on behalf of the Here & Now Project.
DUTY OF OBEDIENCE
Requires board members to be faithful to our mission, consistent with our mission statement, Articles of Incorporation, bylaws, and tax-exempt documentation.
ORGANIZATIONAL & FINANCIAL INFORMATION
We are committed to operating to the highest standards of accountability, transparency, and ethics. We seek to earn your trust by sharing information on how we operate and use donated dollars to achieve our mission. The following details reflect our commitment to donors, volunteers, and the people we serve.
INCLUSIVE OF ALL
The Here and Now Project recognizes that each member of our community brings their own unique skills, experience and perspectives. Including all voices and opinions will shape and influence how to advance our mission to connect and empower the paralysis community in an increasingly intersectional world in innovative ways.
Read our Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Policy.
PRIVACY RESPECTED
The Here and Now Project respects the rights and privacy of our donors. We do no sell or share donor’s personal information to any other entity. Donors are recognized in the organization’s annual report to the community. Donors wishing to remain anonymous should notify us of this at the time a gift/donation made.
Read our Privacy Policy.
LEGALLY INCORPORATED
By Laws and Articles of Incorporation provide details on how our organization is structured and managed.
IRS VERIFIED
Our IRS Form 990 confirms the annual tax filing information we are required to maintain our tax-exempt designation.
Peer Mentors
Are you or a family member looking to connect with one of our 25 trained peer mentors? Many people find it helpful, reassuring, and hopeful to talk to a mentor about adjusting to life after a spinal cord injury. Topics of conversation could include getting back to work or school after an SCI, adaptive sports, relationships and intimacy, bladder and bowel management, and more. We match individuals with peer mentors based primarily on gender, injury level, age, interests, and family life, amongst other considerations.
Check out our wonderful peer mentors below and if you’d like to connect with someone, please contact NorCal SCI’s Peer Mentor Coordinator, Tricia, at tricia@norcalsci.org
NOTE: Per C&DR, 23 certified peer mentors in Washington. Eleven of these mentors are with the Here and Now Project, and nine are with St. Luke's. The remaining three mentors are not associated with a facility or organization.
